What's New?

Open House/Home & School Meeting:  Please join us for our Open House tonight at 6:00 p.m. followed by our Home & School Meeting at 7:00 p.m.  During the Open House, you will be able to visit classrooms and meet faculty/staff and parents.  Educational Outfitters will be here during the Open House and at our Home & School Meeting to answer questions and concerns about uniforms.  The free dress for students whose parents attend our Home & School Meeting will be Friday, August 29th.  Childcare will be provided for the Home & School Meeting.

Dismissal Procedures:  Please read the new dismissal procedures attached to the bulletin.  This new procedure will begin on Wednesday, September 3rd.  If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to talk to Mrs. McKee.

Golf Meeting for Golf Team:  There will be a meeting for anyone interested in our SMS Golf Team (new and returning golfers) with instruction, John Simonson on Tuesday, September 16th at 3:00 p.m. in the school library.  This meeting is for any new or current golfers in grades 5 thru 8.

Scrip News:   A Scrip order form was sent home in today's family envelope!  Please click on this Scrip Program link to find out more about this great fundraising program.  Thank you for your support of these fundraising programs.  We appreciate your willingness to change the way that you shop to help our school.

Earning for Learning at the Mall at Johnson City:  The Mall at Johnson City and Coca-Cola are combining their efforts again this year to help area schools raise funds for supplies and equipment with Coca-Cola Earning for Learning.  To help our school earn points, take your mall receipts dated August 1st to September 13th to the Guest Services Center on the lower level of the Mall designated for St. Mary's School.  Each dollar you spend counts as one point.  Earn TRIPLE POINTS when you purchase mall gift certificates.  Select stores will be posted weekly for DOUBLE POINTS.  As of Monday, August 18th, Providence School is in 1st place; St. Mary's School is in 2nd place.  1st place is $10,000, 2nd place - $7,500, 3rd place - $5,000, 4th place - $3,500, 5th place - $2,000 - 6th place - $15,000 and 7th place - $1,000.

Needed - House to Rent:  Family looking for a three bedroom house to rent near SMS or ETSU.  Need to move by September 1st.  If you have information about any houses available, please call 586/850-4471.

Virtus Training:  A VIRTUS Protecting God's Children training will be offered at St. Mary's Church once again on Wednesday, September 17 at 9:30 a.m.  All regular volunteers, field trip chaperones, teachers, substitutes, Aftercare and extracurricular coaches/workers must attend a 3 hour training session.  This is one time training, not something that is required each year.  Please register online for the training by visiting www.virtus.org and clicking on "Registration" and Diocese of Knoxville, Tn.  You will need to refer back to the username and password that you set up following the training, so please write them down.  Once you register for the training, just attend the session and sign the attendance roster.

Used Uniforms:  Used uniforms are still being collected.  You may bring uniform donations (those purchased through Educational Outfitters) to the front office anytime.  Please call Michelle Burns with any questions at 926-8748.  Thank you.

Worth Repeating!

Drop-Off and Pick-Up:  When crossing from the parking lot to the school sidewalk, please use the crosswalk.  We want to make sure everyone is safe.  Please remember on church and school grounds the speed limit is 15 mph.

Campbell's Labels for Education:  Please continue to save UPC's from participating Campbell's products and send them to the School Office.  Ask your relatives to save them, too!  A complete list of eligible items was included in today's Family Bulletin.  Any questions, please contact Meredith Miller at 741-4342.

Tardy:  Students that come into the building after the 8:00 a.m. school bell rings are marked tardy.  We will not be using the sign-out form to let you know when your child is tardy.  The tardy bell does ring at 8:00 a.m.  The church bell chimes and the 8:00 a.m. tardy bell will not always be together.  We set the bell by the number of Time and Temperature listed in the phone book.  A child must be signed in by a parent or guardian if arriving after the 8:00 a.m. bell.  Thank you!

BoxTops & Tyson Foods:  Please continue to save BoxTops.  JuicyJuice is now part of the BoxTops program.  We sent home a Tyson's flier in today's family envelope.  If you would like more information on either of these school fundraisers, please contact Denise Fluhr at 913-2890.
