Class News

Mrs. Kirkwood's third grade kicked off the school year with the theme "Flying High in Third Grade".  The class has studied the Wright Brothers and early flight, and also the recent NASA space shuttle Endeavor mission to the International Space Station.

Third grade is also studying the metamorphosis of the butterfly by providing a temporary home for sixteen monarch caterpillars!  We released our first monarch butterfly, named Monty, last week.  He is now on his way to his winter home in Mexico.

Our fall field trip will be to see the play, The Best Christmas Pageant Ever, on November 26 at Eastman's Toy F. Reid Employee Center in Kingsport.

Class Rules

  • Listen and follow directions
  • Raise hand to talk during lessons
  • Complete work on time
  • Walk quietly in hall
  • Show respect and kindness to classmates, teachers, and staff
  • Respect school and personal property
  • Do your best!

Supply List for School Year 2008-09

Please do not substitute or bring additional supplies. Please do not bring the trapper keepers or notebooks as there is not enough desk or storage space for these large notebooks and we do not use them in 3rd grade.

Several #2 pencils (if mechanical, must be disposable) One pack Pink Pearl erasers
Box of crayons Box of felt tip markers (Crayola brand - washable)
Two dry erase markers (for Math marker boards) One box of colored pencils
Scissors (such as Fiskars) One large glue stick
One pack of notebook paper (Wide-ruled) One black and white composition notebook
Two containers of Clorox Wipes Three large boxes of facial tissues (one labeled "specials")
Five book covers for textbooks (large size, if possible) One bottle of hand sanitizer
One zippered pencil bag to hold supplies (I would prefer this over Two sturdy folders (one labeled "Take Home and one labeled
the hard box for supplies)      "Notebook Paper"

Please remember to restock supplies throughout the school year.

I strongly recommend the use of rolling backpacks because I am concerned about back injuries with the traditional backpack.

Please put your child's name on tool box, crayons, markers, scissors, glue sticks, and especially clothing.
